Astronomy Night

Date, Location and Times
Saturday October 19, 2013
Location Percy Clarkson Park, Sandhurst Shores
Time 6:00 pm to 9 pm

Full Moon Rise Event
Moon Rise is scheduled for 6:37 pm.
We will watch the moon rise over Lake Ontario, just after sunset, so bring your cameras and binoculars.
Sunset scheduled for 6:15 pm.

Star Viewing Event
We will view the Circumpolar Stars tonight. Ursa Major is an ancient constellation with Neanderthal man considering this “The Great Bear”, ancient Anglo Saxons this was “The Plow” and early Europeans this was “The Wagon”. Can you see how these cultures saw these images in the modern day “Big Dipper”?
What other stars or constellations do you want to see? Bring along your list.

Planet Viewing Event
Venus may be visible NW tonight.

Bad Weather
Let’s pray for a clear night, however, bad Weather or cloudy weather the date is Sunday October 20, 2013

Items to make the evening enjoyable
Chair, jacket, bug spray, drinks and snacks. If you have binoculars or a telescope, please bring them.

Give Aways Tonight
We have a children’s telescope draw prize, donated by John Deman.
We have a limited quantity of Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) Moon Guides and Star Planisphere for the adults.
